"Loredana - Rain Rain Remixed" Available For Download

We contributed a track to Vlad Stoian's collection of remixes and reinterpretations of "Rain Rain," the most recent single by Romanian pop singer Loredana. From the site:

When Loredana’s new single Rain Rain was released in July, I fell in love like never before.
It arrived during the strangest time in my life so far.
It encouraged me to believe again that good will come.

I decided to invite the greatest lords of sound around the globe to remix Rain Rain in their own, inimitable way,
and together we built this awesome free collection of blissful tunes.

Rain Rain was composed and produced in New York by Loredana with Bruce Driscoll and Jeremy Adelman.
Completely 3D and featuring French comedian Nicolas Ullman, the video (soon to be released) for Rain Rain was filmed in August in LA and the Mojave Desert. (director: Julien Rocher; 3D director: Pitoff)

Another 10 remixes came from a remix contest with winners picked by Loredana herself.
Thanks also to the talented Alex Tânjală for his photography, and Silver ‘§‘ Strain for his cover art.

Endless sweet thanks to everyone involved, my precious friends.
The best artists I know creating an inspirational galaxy of new sounds.
I hope you enjoy my idea as much as I do.
It is a huge experiment, all for your pleasure - no money or commercial interests involved.

The beat battles the drone, the noise usurps the harmony

Pierre Boulez was the first to develop a set of simple oppositions and complex differences, as well as reciprocal nonsymmetrical correlations, between smooth and striated space. He created these concepts and words in the field of music.... In the simplest terms, Boulez says that in a smooth space-time one occupies without counting, whereas in a striated space-time one counts in order to occupy.

Boulez is concerned with the communication between the two kinds of space, their alternations and superpositions: how "a strongly directed smooth space tends to meld with a striated space,"...how "texture" can be crafted in such a way as to lose fixed and homogeneous values, becoming a support for slips in tempo....

Find ourselves in the neon city: Limited Edition CD

You get the seven tracks of the EP in a vinyl-style 32 lb. cotton paper sleeve and everything in the pictures. Liner notes include a unique hand-written lyric sheet, poem, or message. Each CD features a unique hand-drawn design. Limited to 50 copies.  Purchase here.

A little background: This was originally supposed to be a single for “Neon City Nova” that we would release in anticipation of the reissue of For a home in memory searching, but the thing grew into an EP. At 30 minutes, it’s as long as some LPs, but we’re calling it an EP because there are really only five new songs here, even though the two versions of “Neon City Nova” are different from the version found on For a home in memory searching.

We also have couple copies (literally, a couple) of our first LP CD  left.  Send us an email if you're interested.

Finally, our previous album, For a home in memory searching, is still available for free download at archive.org. As mentioned above, we will be reissuing a deluxe two-disc edition in the near future: one disc of the original nine tracks, and another disc of unreleased tracks, alternate versions, and collaborations.

Still charting the city

We were hoping to have released "Find ourselves in the neon city" by now, but there's still work to be done.  All of the songs on the album were created and recorded just in the past few weeks, barely rehearsed (except, of course, the two versions of "Neon City Nova"); I find it's always good to put what you think is a completed mix away for a while and come back to it with fresh ears a few weeks later.  Whatever song we're working on gets stuck in my head, playing out in a million different versions, and what ends up on tape wax hard drive is often radically (or just a little) different from (or is it different than? I was an English major; I should know) what we originally recorded.  Nevertheless, I'm happy with what I'm hearing; right now it's just a matter of getting a good mix of "Catatonic city," one that sounds good on its own as well as in the context of the songs around it.  I always have trouble with mixing live drums.  It takes a lot of tweaking to get them to sit right in the mix: the bass guitar ends up crowding out the bass drum; the open hi hat sizzles and hisses on top of everything.
